1936 Rolls-Royce with Park Ward Drophead Coupe Body

Chassis GXM 61, Engine B25C

Owner: Neil Robinson, San Carlos, CA

This is a rare sporting open body on a late 1930s Rolls-Royce. It was built for Sir Arthur Cory-Wright, who bought more than a dozen Rolls-Royces before the Second World War. Sir Arthur had the body designed and built for him by the independent coachbuilders Park Ward & Co. It is a one-off body and the car is featured in the books, Those Elegant Rolls-Royce by Lawrence Dalton and Rolls-Royce 25/35 hp and Wraith by Bernard King. Among many other items, Sir Arthur specified a raked steering column, springs rated for town and country touring, light English curl walnut interior wood and fitted suitcases for the trunk. The body is Ascot grey with Oxford blue fenders and top. The interior has Ascot Grey Connolly leather and carpets.

GMX 61 won the Rolls-Royce of America Trophy at the annual meet of the RROC in Dana Point, CA in August 1999. The car has also first in class at the Silverado, Palo Alto and Silicon Valley concours, as well awards at other shows. In addition to being shown, it is driven a couple of thousand miles a year, including being driven down to Southern California for the Dana Point meet last year.
