General information about the web and pictures
As the Webmaster I would like to do whatever I can to help develop the web site, but I can only post the information provided to me by the Board and Membership. The www.rrocncr.net web site is only as good as the work put into it. The more help I have the more up-to-date and functional it will be for our membership. Since there are different skill levels in our membership I will try to give step-by-step instructions for each process that needs to be done.
I would like to start a photo album of all the members' cars. Please provide me with the model, year and owner. For now I have just created a page to view the cars of which I have pictures. As the album grows I will have to divide them into categories and create links to each category, so keep the pictures coming.
Pictures and drawings
First Choice
All pictures should be in .jpg (Joint Photographic Experience Group). A computer monitor can only see 72 pixels, so high quality pictures (such as would be required for the newsletter) only wastes time downloading and takes up space on the server. All pictures should be 350 pixels X 350 pixels or less. Drawings should be in Graphic Image Format (.gif) format as those give a better resolution for illustrations. If you can't covert them to .jpg or .gif it would be best to send them to me by US mail as they would be quite large if you were to send them by dial-up modem; however, I will accept any attachment that is less than 2 MEG.
If the only pictures that you have are printed on paper:
Second choice
You can go to Kinko's Copy Center (or someplace similar) and they will scan it and give you a floppy disk with the scanned image on it. Make sure that they scan Pictures in JPG and Drawings in GIF. You can send the floppy disk to me by US mail or the send the image(s) as an attachment over e-mail.
Third choice
You can send them by US Mail and I will then scan them for you. I would prefer not to have to return them so be sure that it is something that you can replace. If you need the photo back please make arrangements with me before sending them.
I can convert the following formats:
Photoshop (.PDF, .PDD, .PSD, .ESP)
TIFF (.TIF)
BMP (.BMP, RLE)
Amiga (.IFF)
Compuserve (.GIF)
PCX (.PCX)
PICT File (.PCT, (PIC)
PIXAS (.PXR)
PNG (.PNG)
SCITEX CT (.SCT)
TARGA (.TGA, VDA, ICB, VST)
Text
All text must be in Hyper Text Markup Language (HTML) as it appears on the web. Most editors such as MS Word or WordPerfect provide the ability to save in HTML. In MS Word it is under the File, Save As then select save as type select Web Page. In WordPerfect it is under File, Save As, file type select HTML.
Generally it is best to send text and pictures under separate attachments. This is just to keep from confusing the Webmaster (who, by the way, is not a master, just a volunteer).
I would hope that any member that has questions or suggestions would e-mail me webmaster@rrocncr.net
